On the Road Again
I'm heading out bright and early-ish tomorrow morning. I decided to stay one more day because there was so much stuff I had to finish up before I left.
Did I finish everything yet? Heck no! But I'm getting close. The trunk is nearly packed with the 2 pieces of furniture, my smaller suitcase, frames, matted prints, books, DVDs, videos, and knitting supplies. There are still a few nooks and crannies I can squish stuff into. (Stay tuned for: Squish, squish, squishy squish...Oops!)
The next tricky part will be loading the back seat so there's still enough room for the dogs to sit comfortably. Although, squishing is not ruled out. They're just gonna have to deal with it, because strapping them to the top of the car is not an option. But I bet they'd enjoy it. ("Cooooool beans, momma! Woooof-WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOF!")
In other news, I redeemed a Trac Phone airtime card this afternoon, but the minutes still haven't shown up on the goddamned phone. It's never taken this long to process (usually takes a couple minutes). So I called the company, oh, about 5 hours ago and after the rep did some checking, she said not to worry, they'll show up, maybe the system's slow tonight. I GUESS SO. AND I AM WORRIED.
If I had 15 or so minutes left on my phone for the trip, I wouldn't be so edgy, but I've got NONE LEFT. And the cheapest cards cost $20, and I really don't wanna blow that kinda money if I don't have to. She said to call again if the minutes haven't show up by "later this evening." I think 10:46 qualifies as later, but I'll probably wait till tomorrow morning, and if the mins still aren't there, go ballastic on their asses. COMP ME SOME, FUCKERS. I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS. I'M DRIVING TO KENTUCKY ONCE I GET THE DOGS TIED ON THE CAR!
The thing about taking trips is that no matter how much you get done the day before, there are always a million last minute details that add up to an hour or so. And mom and I will have "one more" cup of coffee and "one more" cigarette together, and then the coffee-to-cigarette ratio won't be right, so I'll refill or light up again, then I'll run more stuff out to the car, which will require a 5 minute break afterwards, and I'll run to the bathroom eighteen times because it's THERE, and I might as well take the dogs out one more time, then I'll need to look around the house to make sure I didn't forget anything THREE TIMES (or four), and after our hugging and crying, I might get on the road by 11. Ish.
And if I'm forced to stop at the Walgreen's down the road to pick up a new airtime card and/or if all the rest of my stuff doesn't fit in the car, you know I'm gonna be one pissed off camper.
Watch out America: Halo's on the road again.
And she probably left her prescription sunglasses on the kitchen counter.
