Warm Like a Pita Pocket

Howdy peoples! I had an entry almost finished the other day, then I became distracted and decided not to post it. 'Twas long and complicated and involved phrases like "parents", "Medicare", and "Dad couldn't find his way out of the paper bag he fell asleep in."

What a mess, folks. Mom's frustration and depression is breaking my heart, and I'm terrified about Dad's worsening mental and physical condition. However, Mom is admirably taking the reigns of responsibility, my brother is serving as back-up support via phone with "I will come down there and make sure he signs whatever he needs to sign," and my sis-in-law and I are the sounding boards and additional moral support.

Thankfully, Mom seemed in better spirits today. All I can do at this point is listen to her, continue to encourage her to read up on everything she can get her hands on related to retirement/COBRA/Medicare/Social Security/etc, and be ready to drive or fly back to Houston if needed.

In the meantime, I've been taking care of things around here (bills paid! laundry done! stray dog kibbles vacuumed! almost!) and having a blast in Second Life. I worked as a hostess at a virtual Positive Quantum Energy festival over the weekend for several hours. The live musicians were amazing, the dance floor was hopping, and it was a resounding success. I met some fabulous people, earned a nice pile of Lindens, and had SO MUCH FUN. Woooooot!

The only big downside to the weekend (and a few days prior) was that P and I had a major disconnect. I was so wrapped up with friends and activities on SL that I unintentionally ignored him. What I believed afterwards to be some minor scheduling misalignments with his time and mine, turned out to be a very big hot button issue for him based on a previous relationship in RL. My emails and phone messages went unanswered, and I knew if I didn't hear from him in a week or so, it was over. What I didn't realize was that he HAD written me on Sunday, but to my Gmail account, which I hadn't checked in a few days because he was never online.

Anyhoo, long story short, we had a big bitchfest Monday night via instant message on SL and finally figured out what the hell was going on with each other. And it wasn't until we spoke on the phone Tuesday night that I discovered he'd written me a farewell note on Sunday. Oh criminey. That was tough to read after we'd already settled things. The good news is we discussed everything and seem to be back on track. I am hoping we will meet in RL sometime this year, but as I said before, we are going to take things slow and see how it goes.

Whew! What a week. Overall I'm feeling good, positive and warm like a pita pocket (thanks to MadTV for the quote).

I need to giddyup on over to the store before it starts raining again. I'm running low on everything. Tomorrow I have my fabulous dental appointment, which should equal at least 2 days of gum pain when they glue my crown back on. GAH.

I must remember NOT to chew on moderately old Reisens from the candy canister in the pantry no matter how chocolately and numby they may taste. And Blow-Pops should be avoided at all costs.

Those things always get me into trouble.
