Hey peoples of the ninnerwebs! How are ya? Whadja do this weekend? Ohhhh...I see. So who bailed you out? And did you apologize to the goat? :P As for me, I managed to avoid both jail, and indecency with a farm animal (so far). YAY! I rock! And, as it so happens, I have NEWS. First off, I got a job! I signed on with a few temp agencies a couple weeks back; one ended up finding me work, the other turned out to be a dud (per usual). The week before last I had a two day stint filling in for an assistant to an estate lawyer. Very laid back office, super nice guy, interesting and easy work. It was the PERFECT gig for me to start with, so I was very pleased. Then last Monday I had an interview for a longer (possibly temp-to-perm) assignment for ANOTHER lawyer. I found out the next day I landed the job and started on Wednesday. WHEE! This guy (also very nice) is starting up a private practice after taking a sabbatical from a long tenure in state government. So right now, it's just me and him, getting his small office set up, drumming up business, sorting through old files, blah blah. Since there's no real office traffic yet, I get to dress casual for awhile. I've got a brand new computer and office desk, and we're coming up with the best ways to do things, so my job is being shaped as we go along. There's something very nice about not having to step into someone else's shoes. It's pretty close to my apartment, so I'll save some money on gas...and since I don't start till 8:30 am, I miss most of the morning traffic. I do hit evening traffic though, but it's not TOO bad. The pay is less than what I made at the farm (eeeps!) and no benefits right now (double eeps!), but hopefully if this goes perm I can get a pay raise. Plus, I still have COBRA from my old job till the end of the month. So that's something, at least. I'm pretty excited about this job all in all. I'm finding I really enjoy legal-type work, which is something I never expected. And it's funny...there's a bloodstock agency a few doors down from our office, with 3 younger folks who I sometimes see on their smoke breaks (I go to my car and sit with the A/C blasting during mine). Anyhoo, one of the guys brings his very chill dog (Walker) to work. A beautiful Golden Retriever. So while I miss the doggies and Rosie the chubs cat from my last job, at least I get to see one pooch during my working hours. My doggies are having some trouble adjusting to momma's new schedule. Wednesday I came home to find they'd shredded half a package of toilet paper I'd left sitting on the kitchen counter from a recent shopping trip. GRRRRRR! The next day, they destroyed a bunch of empty boxes in my "office," along with some old Christmas wrap/tissue paper from a big package of presents I'd gotten from mom last year. WHAT A FRIGGIN' MESS. I picked up what I could, but left the half-eaten boxes to keep them busy on Friday. Seemed to work. Oh, except for the fact they managed to open the laundry cabinet door and pull down the basket of clothes to be washed. No damage to the clothes (thankfully my new work clothes were stashed in the closed-off bedroom), but they ripped into a fluffy blanket. Lil' bastards. My lunch break is only 30 minutes, so I can't come home and walk them, plus I'd rather not add on all that extra mileage. I just have to make sure to leave them stuff to shred and pray they avoid books, videos and whatever else is in their eager grasp. I'll have to go around and doggy proof things, to be on the safe side. And in other BIG NEWS, my parents are getting a divorce. Yep! Long-ass and very complicated story (will explain later), but my dad pretty much left our family about a week ago, so my mom hired an attorney. We don't know where he is at the moment, actually. What a wonderful Father's Day! He better not show up at my doorstep...if he manages to remember where I live (doubtful), I'm supposed to turn him away. It's sad and fucked and bizarre, but he made his choice, and as far as I'm concerned, GOOD RIDDANCE. I'm proud of my mom for standing up against him, finally, after all these years. He was stunned to discover she retained a lawyer. Serves him RIGHT! Like I said, there's A LOT more to this story and you won't believe the stuff my dad has pulled lately! Stay tuned for all the sordid details... Well, it's nearly 5:00 am and I should try to get some more sleep. I was in bed by 10:30 pm last night, so I feel pretty rested, but I have lots of stuff to tackle at work, so might as well try to get in another hour or so of sleepies if I can. The doggies are waiting for me to come back to honk-shu land. I'm sure the goat wouldn't mind a few snuggles either. *smirk*
