It doesn't matter when you turn in your resignation letter. Just make sure it's professional and positive (in other words, lie) you're going to need this moron as a reference unless you're willing to tell other employers that the gap in your employment history is from when you were doing time in prison or finding yourself in a commune in India. Tell your boss you're looking for more responsiblity which is business speak for more money! Lord knows you deserve it!

God. I'm so glad I am unemployed right now (though I'd rather have mom back and not have my inheritance!)...I'd give my notice on a Friday afternoon...it's a good way to wind up the week, or something...

Oh. I never knew you had so much selfesteem, on the workplace! I, I was worried since I thought that you had no selfesteem workwise. You know, thatīs why I was always likely to say: ooh, you should stay with this job, make nice with boss etc. But now it looks like you got selfesteem like superman, uhm, I mean, really much. THEN my point of view is you can do whatever you like. Have them kiss your feet, act like a princess. If you think so highly of yourself, then act upon it. I personally would just look for another job if I didnīt like this one-hm, ok. I would probably stay, since Iīm such a mouse-oh, forget that again. If you are so full of yourself, uh, well, then great! Then act like it! Do what you want! Why are you saying this only now? You donīt look like someone whoīs full of themselves. You look like someone who...thinks little of themselves, honestly! That is the impression I got!! Awful!

Considering your boss is a dullard I don't know if this will work- when I found myself in your position (overworked, underpaid, underappreciated) I went to the big guy in charge, listed my accomplishments, told him how much I was (over)worked, had the evidence in my hand showing how often I was going to trial, etc. I then began with 'I am a single woman having to support myself and I can no longer do it on this pay'. Within 20 minutes I was promoted and given (essentially) a twenty thousand dollar raise. There was no way he was going to lose me. My advice to you- I would stay at the job until I definitely had something else on the line; if you need the resume first, then resign on Monday and work your ass off; that way they will have to write a great recommendation because it will open his eyes to just how much you do; they will never really notice that until they are about to lose you and are shitting their pants. Let him know you are quitting not because you hate your job, but because you can't afford to live on that pay. Then they will see you have no choice- they are screwing you instead of the other way around. In terms of your resume, I have often read your journal and thought you could plug one of your paragraphs into a resume; a future employer would be floored at how well you multi-task. I would also order a box of bourbon balls for myself, thank you very much.

Having been in this situation a few times, I suggest doing it on Friday afternoon. Bossman may decide to tell you not to come back, which means you're done, and you can stop worrying. Also, even if Bossman wants you to come back on Monday, you don't have to go through the weekend wondering how the conversation will go, and you can just relax, and bake me some cookies... I mean do whatever your heart desires. As for a letter of reccommendation, do your best to ask for it right away, before he has time to think about screwing you out of it. The closer it gets to the end of your two weeks the more he's going to feel like if you can't find a better job you might stay with him. Bosses are cruel unyielding people. And he's obviously a cheapskate dick, so he may look at letting you go as a way to save two weeks' pay. Often, Bosses assume that once you have turned in your resignation, you're no longer going worry about doing your best work.
Oh, and the rest of my advice is this: don't worry too much about screwing over your co-workers. Very rarely do we remain friends with our office buddies. And if we do, then they generally have the decency to blame the hard times on the Boss's incompetence.

Friday afternoon is good...but be careful, because they may find a replacement over the weekend, and you spend the next two weeks training the dumb bitch. This has happened to me. Unemployment's not much more than that now, either...at least not in my state. I think I got $264 a week after taxes, and I was making about $600 a week after taxes pre-joblessness. Call a temp agency TODAY and line up something for after the holidays if you're going to quit...being jobless and broke sucks ass. But your boss is a dickhead, so I totally understand why you're quitting.

Do they give any kind of holiday bonus? If so, you might not want to jinx that. If not, give notice tomorrow! Good luck!
