I'm incredibly proud of you. Wanna know what feels really great? Driving by and realizing you don't have to stop. And then if you're me you scream, "FUCK YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU!" at the top of your lungs while doing so. Ah, memories.

600 people in my county went to the hospital over Christmas weekend with that stomach flu. I had it myself (but didn't go to the hospital). It was NASTY.
The reason those people weren't as effusive as you thought they might be, is probably because it's a little surreal for them. When you work in a stressful job for a long time with people, you begin to feel like comrades-in-arms and when someone leaves for greener pastures or because they've just had it, those left behind feel kinda abandoned.
