Sleep Eludes Me

Hello people! *waves*

Nice shoes. Dayum. Those new? Sweeeet! I need to get to Payless myself soon.

I can't sleep tonight. So there's that. I'm still all excited from the loooonnnnng weekend's festivities. I found out on Wednesday afternoon that bossman was closing the office on Thursday, so I had 4 days off! That was awesome, but that meant 2 days of missed pay, since I don't qualify for holiday pay through the agency yet. I kinda get a feeling he's trying to cut costs here and there too.

We finally had a client come in the office, so I got to notarize fancy ass estate documents. I had to grab those 2 guys from the office a few doors down as witnesses. Speaking of which, one of the guys is named Hunter, so when I saw him outside earlier in the week, I said "Hey, can I call you Hunter S. Thompson?" He laughed, came over and told me he's a big Hunter S. Thompson fan (apparently H.S. grew up in Louisville -- I didn't know that!) and he told me about a great, not very well known story he wrote called The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved. I've read a few pages so far and am delighted. It's fucking hilarious. Supposedly the best article ever written about the craziness of the Derby.

I myself still haven't worked up the nerve to hit the infield on Derby day. Getting tickets in the grandstand are practically impossible to obtain unless you get on some year-long+ waiting list. But I suppose I ought to do it while I'm still young enough. Just to say I WAS THERE.

Now I need to hook up with someone who doesn't drink to take me there. Shit, maybe I'll hit an AA meeting and socialize with some folks. I suppose taking a beer in with me wouldn't be a good idea, huh?

In other kinda-sorta work news, I was sitting out having a smoke on Tuesday afternoon, and this little girl and boy were playing up and down the sidewalk. She was on a bike, he was on one of those foot scooters. At one point, she rode past me towards the entrance to the parking lot and he yelled "STOP! BE CAREFUL! WAIT FOR ME! DON'T MOVE!"

Then he jumped on his scooter and started to fly down the sidewalk. As he drew closer, I said "Awwww...that's sweet, looking out for your sister." He flashed a big smile at me. I then asked "She is your sister, right?" He nodded. "Ohh, that's nice. That's a good brother." He gave me a funny glance as he scooted by, and then it dawned on me...HE WAS BLACK. And that might've come out sounding wrong. I was tempted to call out "I MEANT, IN THE SIBLING WAY!" but he looked about 8, I figured best to let it drop.

Halo needs to work on her whitey skillz. For realz.

Let's see...what else is going on? Oh, I hear that Dad hired his own attorney, so Mom's waiting to see his next move. He'll probably go into negotiation mode. Don't think he has much of a leg to stand on, considering he abandoned the damn family. I guess he redirected his Social Security checks to some new bank account (so we figure), but it's twice the amount mom gets and she's the one stuck with all the bills right now. Furthermore, he's been charging shit on the joint credit card (including $1500 to his atty), and she's footing THAT bill too. The man better cough up some cash or get his own damn card.

What a nightmare. I try to think of it as little as possible. It's so tough for me to go there mentally and emotionally. I worry enough as it is. I can't be tossing and turning over something 40 years in the making. *sigh*

But in GOOD news, I met up with my online dating site guy on Second Life last week (we both have accounts, but were holding off on hooking up in SL for awhile). So we finally signed in to meet "virtually" and everything just clicked! I mean I knew it would, but the SL factor added a whole new amazing dimension. One thing led to another, and now we're partnered! I am over the MOON. He's such an angel. Smart, funny, super sexy, and he only lives a few hours away from me (in Tennessee). We're planning to meet at some point...but right now, trying to get to know each other better before rushing too much. Hopefully it'll all work out, but like I said in a previous post, you never know about these things. At this point, I'm enjoying it for what it is. But damn, *Halo is giddy!*

Anyhoo, I should try to get some rest. Fortunately, bossman will be out half the day for some marathon doctor appointment. Not sure if he'll be there when I come in or not. I'll keep busy with this and that, and he might've come up with a bunch of stuff for me to do while he's gone. I never know with him. It's feast or famine. Overall, I still really like this job. It's PERFECT for me, I swear. It's weird not to dread going to work. I mean, sure...of course I'd rather screw around here, but really, I look forward to tackling stuff there. This is the benefit of taking a shitload of time off!

Alright...off I go to reacquaint myself to my fluffy bed pillow. Mmmmmm.

Have a great week, peeps! (Hope you Americans had a great 4th!)
